Frequently Asked Questions Q. What kind of Martial Art is Little Warriors Martial Arts School? A. Little Warriors Martial Arts School is a blend of Karate, Jujutsu, Judo, Eskrima, and JKD training. It is a self defence orientated martial arts which teaches students defence and escape techniques against unarmed and armed attackers. Q. How old does my child need to be to attend Little Warrior School? A. Little Warriors is specifically designed for children aged 3 to 14 years old. Courses are split by ages 3—5 yrs and 6—14 years. Q. What happens when my child turns 14? A. Little Warriors Martial Arts School is designed to introduce students to many styles of martial arts especially those studied in the Practical Kombat Systems. Once a student is above the age of 14 they will move onto Practical Kombat Systems Modern Martial Arts adult syllabus that they can further their learning to Black Belt and beyond. If you choose to continue with us as an adult your grade will be transferred to the equivalent grade in the adult school curriculum. If they have attained Cadet Black Belt they will keep this level until they are 16 when they can grade for their adult Dan grades. Q. Does my child require any special clothing? A. For starters your child can wear tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. If your child enjoys training and wishes to continue we recommend you purchase our unique Little Warriors Martial Arts School Uniforms. You can purchase these directly from your Instructor via the catalogue. Q. Does my child require any special training equipment? A. We recommend that you do not buy any equipment before you start training in the classes. As students advance safe training weapons are introduced - please note that we cannot sell weapons to anyone under the age of 18 years. We will not permit any weapons purchased from outside the club to be used in any of our classes. We use specialist martial arts suppliers for safety weapons. Q. Do you do any sparring (free fighting)? A. Because our philosophy of the Martial Arts is one of self defence we do not teach students in our Little Warriors Martial Arts School to free-fight. Instead we use attack and defence scenarios which involve avoiding and escaping instead of fighting. Q. Do you have competitions? A. The Little Warrior School philosophy is about self improvement rather than being better than someone else. We understand however that competition can be a good way to focus on training as well refine our technique and form. We will be holding inter club and national competitions in Kata (forms). Whilst children are at such a young and vulnerable age we do not promote fighting events. Q. How much does it cost to join the little warriors martial arts school? A. FREE! We do not charge a joining fee for the Little Warriors Martial Arts School however, ALL students MUST purchase licence and insurance fees through the school after a maximum of four weeks. Relevant licence and insurance fees are stated below; A. Little Warriors £15:00 per anum. This fee is to be renewed every year in January. B. Warrior Kidz £25:00 per year. This fee is to be renewed every year in January. We will NOT be able to teach your child without these being kept up to date! Q. How much are lessons? A. New students classes are charged at £5:00 per session for the first month. After this students are required to pay monthly by standing order, cash or cheque. Payments must be made on the first week of the month or beforehand if you are going on holiday. Class fees must be paid at the START of the class. Little warriors monthly fees are: · £15:00 per month for 1 class per week · £ 28:00 per month for 2 classes per week · Note: Tuition fees are based upon a yearly fee broken up into 12 equal payments. As such these are payable regardless of any classes missed by the student. Academy holidays are taken into account when fees were calculated. You will be informed of these in advance.
What else does my child need to be able to participate in classes?
The basic kit required for the Little Warriors 3– 6 yrs class is as follows:
1. Little Warrior Uniform and Sash—from club catalogue. £20:00 2. Little Warrior Workbook—This is a necessity for participating in classes.
The basic kit required for the older children only classes is as follows:
1. Little Warrior Uniform £30:00 2. Association Badges—Available from our club catalogue 3. Grade Workbook—This is a necessity for participating in classes and is available from our club catalogue
Do you charge for Little Warrior badge assessments?
No we don’t. All we ask is that parents pay for the badges once their child has passed the assessment.
All children’s classes General technique badges £1:00 per badge.
Little Warriors only: Level One Badge—£5:00 Level Two Badge—£5:00 Level Three Badge—£5:00
Do You charge for belt assessments?
Yes we do.
Belt gradings are £20 per belt assessment.
Do I need to renew licence and insurance fees?
Yes. Licence and insurance/ enrolment fees must be renewed each and every year that your child trains at our Academy.
